Gerald Haan
President & Founder
Mr. Haan is the President and Founder of Haan Development. For more than 25 years, he has directed the planning, financing, and construction of high-quality real estate projects, with a particular focus on affordable and workforce housing. Under his leadership, Haan Development has successfully developed a portfolio of more than 1,300 housing units as well as multiple commercial developments across diverse markets. He is responsible for setting the overall strategic direction of the company, identifying new business opportunities, and ensuring the long-term success of its communities. After studying economics at the University of Tennessee, Mr. Haan began his career in commercial real estate and development, later gaining valuable experience in the securities and financial markets. This background has informed his expertise in structuring complex financing strategies and navigating the intricacies of public-private partnerships that are often essential to affordable housing development. In addition to his role at Haan Development, Mr. Haan also serves as the President of NLR Property Management, Framework Building Group, and Michigan Lumber Company, which collectively support the firm’s integrated approach to housing and community development.
Lacy Tippett
Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Tippet serves as Chief Financial Officer for Haan Development and NLR Property Management, overseeing financial strategy, capital structuring, and compliance across a multi-state portfolio of affordable housing assets. With over 16 years of specialized experience in Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) development and property management, she brings a deep command of tax credit syndication, cost certification, and regulatory frameworks governing Section 42 housing. Her leadership spans the full lifecycle of LIHTC projects—from initial underwriting and investor negotiations to stabilized asset management and financial reporting. She is responsible for optimizing capital stacks, managing audit and tax processes, and ensuring adherence to federal and state compliance standards. She works closely with development teams, investors, and regulatory agencies to deliver financially sound, mission-driven housing solutions.
paul marquardt
Vice President, Operations
Mr. Marquardt provides strategic and day-to-day leadership for Haan Development’s affiliated property management company, NLR Management, overseeing its growing multistate portfolio of affordable and workforce housing communities. In addition to directing initiatives at NLR, he also supports executive-level functions for G.A. Haan Development, contributing to organizational planning and cross-company coordination. Paul holds a degree in Management from the College of Business Administration at Central Michigan University. Before joining Haan Development, he built a strong foundation in the consumer products industry, serving as Chief Operating Officer for a national brand. In that role, he led all major business functions—including sales, marketing, manufacturing, legal affairs, logistics, and human resources—gaining broad experience in operational systems, process improvement, and team leadership. Paul’s depth of operational expertise and hands-on leadership approach play a central role in supporting the company’s expanding footprint and commitment to high-quality property operations across all communities.
Andrew Schorfhaar
Vice President, Development
Mr. Schorfhaar leads Haan Development’s new project pipeline and oversees the company’s development team, guiding project management, business development efforts, and the execution of affordable housing initiatives across multiple states. He directs projects from early feasibility and site control through financing, construction, and stabilization, bringing more than 14 years of experience in affordable housing development and project leadership. He began his career with Haan Development after graduating from Michigan Technological University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Prior to rejoining the company in 2022, he served as Vice President of Development for The Related Companies of California, where he oversaw large-scale affordable housing projects and worked closely with public agencies, local governments, and mission-driven partners to advance community-focused housing solutions. Over his career, Mr. Schorfhaar has led the development or rehabilitation of more than 700 affordable housing units and has closed over $500 million in affordable multifamily transactions. His leadership at Haan Development centers on strengthening the firm’s development strategy, deepening partnerships, and ensuring high-quality project execution.
Robert Klein
Vice President, Asset Management
Mr. Klein leads Asset Management for Haan Development, focusing on the ongoing oversight of property operations, performance, and adherence to each asset’s overall business plan. He conducts regular portfolio reviews, helps guide annual planning efforts, and works to ensure consistent operating practices across all communities. Robert also plays a key role in developing and maintaining firm-wide asset management protocols that support strong, stable property operations. Robert holds a degree in Business from Northern Arizona University and brings more than 30 years of leadership experience from the consumer packaged goods sector. His background in team management, customer development, and operational oversight informs his practical, hands-on approach to supporting property performance. Robert also supports Paul Marquardt with the day-to-day leadership and coordination of NLR Management’s field operations team.
